Hiking in New Zealand
Family and Friends come to visit
I had an amazing time in NZ. I travelled for 4 months around the country, slept about 30 nights in back country huts in the mountains and hiked more than 600 km. Plenty of visitors came over from Germany! My brother Alex spent two weeks with me on the South Island, kayaking the Abel Tasman National Park, hiking the longest of the Great Walks, Heaphy Track and enjoying the majestic Fox and Franz-Josef glaciers in the South. We had a great finish in Wanaka and Queenstown and by the time he went home I almost came with him. From Queenstown I went further South to the Fiordland, hiked all the Great Walks there and finished up with a cruise in the Milford Sound. My schedule worked out perfeclty with Flo and Kerstin`s itinerary (two more friends from home) and we got the chance to hang out together for two days. My dear friend Stefan came out to celebrate my birthday with me and together we hired a car in Queenstown and returned it in Auckland two weeks later. We spent lots of hours and kilometers on the road but there was still time for hiking, falling into rivers and skydiving. We also had a great finish in Coromandel just before we headed to Queenstown. There are some photos online already. Check them out and I hope I will get a chance to upload some more before I will leave New Zealand.
