Working in Sydney

Westpac and PricewaterhouseCoopers
Nothing much is happening since the last few weeks. Finding a job in Australia is pretty easy. You just register with a recruitment company and they do all the work - free of charge.

My first assignment was with Westpac Bank doing tax and annual statement audits. In Australia the financial year ends in June i.e. there is loads of work to do in June and July for all Financial Institutions. Now I am working with PwC, a company with a great reputation, great staff and great parties as well. It is really fun to work for PwC. What I like most is the multi cultural mix at work. Many colleagues are of foreign descent like South Africa, Greece, China, Vietnam, UK, India, Estonia, and Aramaic - just to mention a few. Friday night is colleagues’ night out where we go straight from work to the bars what is great ‘cos you don’t lose precious happy hour time whilst going home and getting ready. Once a month we have IFS Drinks (IFS is the Line of Business I work for) where PwC sponsors free food and free drinks at the customer meeting room levels. Last weekend I was lucky enough to experience the City2Surf run from Hyde Park to Bondi Beach. I intended to take part in it but luckily there were too many entries already and I could not sign up anymore. I still went to see more than 63.000 athletes to do this 14km run. At Bondi PWC built up a tent at the beach and welcomed employees with free drinks and Sushi rolls. It was a great Sunday afternoon.
