4 July 2010, Telluride, CO: Catching up with the Shulls
I met Will and Derek in Saigon, Vietnam in February 2005. We continued our travels together for three weeks and parted in northern Vietnam. One year later I met Will and Derek again, by pure chance in Pai, Northern Thailand walking down the street. There we decided to go to Tibet and Nepal together. The same year I visited the Shulls in their hometown in Montrose, Colorado. In 2008 I brought my parents out to Colorado to meet Will, Karen and Derek, too.

27 June 2010, San Jose, CA and Yosemite: Catching up with Bobby
I met Bobby the first time in Germany in 2003 when she visited her sister in Heidelberg. We became friends and I visited her in San Jose, CA in 2006, 2007 and 2008. In 2008 we travelled in Mexico for a week visiting all the Mayan ruins in the Yucatan Peninsula as well as Merida and Palenque. This year we hiked the Hetch Hetchy area in Yosemite National Park, California for three days fully equipped with tent, sleeping bags, matts and cooking stove and tons of mosquito repellent.

16 June 2010, Langlois, OR: Catching up with Jake
I met Jake when I lived and worked in Sydney, Australia. We shared an apartment for about two months and travelled around Sydney for a few days. This year I could finally make my promise come true and visited him in his hometown Langlois at the coast in Oregon. I only spent a few days in Langlois but we packed a lot of activities into it like watersports, hiking, quad biking and playing with Jake's nephew and his German cars.

14 June 2010, Portland, OR: Catching up with Scott and Ana
I met Scott and Ana hiking in Burma in February 2006. We spent a week together hiking from Kalaw to Inle Lake walkign across a spectacular scenery, staying with local people and in a monastery. This year I visited Scott and Ana for the first time. It was a good time to visit them during the world cup as Scott loves to watch the matches, too. He even made it possible for me to watch the German team play at 4:30 in the morning. He all got up and drove downtown to see it in a pub. That's dedication!

9 June 2010, Vancouver, BC: Catching up with Chris
I met Chris when I worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Sydney in 2006 and 2007. He became one of my best friends in Sydney. We also met when I came to Sydney for Xmas and New Years in 2008. When I left New Zealand in July 20010 to travel through South America I stayed in Syndey for a few days to catch up with him and my other friends there. This year we met in Vancouver, Canada and spend two days in and around the city. Chris travelled through the U.S. and Canada for one month with this friend Peter who I have met before as well.

9 June 2010, Vancouver, BC: Catching up with Dave
I met Dave during my first week of travelling in Macau, China in December 2004. He is probably the first travel buddy I had during this trip. We got along well and spend a few days looking at the sites in Macau. It was great to see him again and re-connect with him after five and a half years.

8 June 2010, Vancouver, BC: Catching up with Dany and Catherine
I met Dany and Catherine in New Zealand in 2008 hiking in the South Island. They invited me to join them sailing from New Zealand to Tahiti and Bora Bora on their own sailing yacht, the Nordic. I could hardly resist to say 'yes'. During the following months we became great friends and stayed together for 6 months sailing around the South Pacific (New Zealand, French Polynesia, Cook Islands and Niue). Missing in this photo is 'Mon capitain', Martin, Dany's husband. This year they let me take their VW camper van and made it possible for me to drive around BC. What great and generous friends.

4 June 2010, Vancouver, BC: Catching up with Kai
Kai is my childhood friend from Rauenberg, Germany. We grew up together running and cycling around the fields and vinyards. We haven't seen each other rmuch during the last 15 years. Now he lives in Vancouver, is married to a Canadian, Nicole, and has a 5 year old son. I didn't know that! It happened to be Kai's 34th birthday when I was in Vancouver. I spend the afternoon and evening with him and his family and friends to celebrate.

29 May 2010, Seattle, WA: Catching up with McKenzie and Ali
McKenzie and I met in Burma in February 2006, hiking in the area around Hsipaw north of Mandalay. Walking around the fields we found a natural hotspring inside a river. I always wanted to visit her in Settle but never made it to the Pacific Northwest during my previous trips to the United States. This year I finally come to visit. At the same time I got a chance to see my dear friend Ali, too. I met her in Sucre, Bolivia in October 2009. Ali just finished her 8 months around the world trip a few days ago.
